Structural Mechanics
The National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), jointly led by DST and MeitY, is building India's sovereign high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities. By deploying a national grid of "PARAM" series supercomputers across premier academic and research institutions, the NSM provides compute power for climate modeling, molecular dynamics, astrophysic simulations, and national security workloads. This system utilizes indigenously designed processors and high-speed interconnects.
Data-Driven Metrics
- Aggregate Flops: The NSM HPC grid delivers tens of Petaflops of collective compute capacity, distributed across multiple academic research nodes.
- Indigenous Interconnect: Param supercomputers utilize CDAC’s indigenously developed high-speed interconnects to enable efficient parallel processing across node clusters.
- Climate Modeling Resolution: Supercomputing-enabled weather forecasting models have refined regional precipitation prediction resolution down to a 12-kilometer grid.
Strategic Vector
The NSM should support the development of high-performance software compilers and libraries optimized for indigenous processors, improving hardware utilization across the HPC grid.
